concrete density

Uses Of The Theriodic Table

Concrete Density The density of the concrete is between 2200 kg/m³ and 2400 kg/m³. Concrete, also called concrete, is a composite material commonly used in the field of construction. It consists of a binder capable of binding various substances, to which water and an arid mineral such as sand, gravel or rocks are added.

Concrete is used for the development of different types of structures, such as highways, bridges, quays, sidewalks or even buildings. The density of concrete can be somewhat variable, because there are many different types of concrete and each has its own characteristics, below you can read in detail about each of them.

Densities of concretes according to their types

Density of ordinary concrete

It is made up of 4 elements, binder, aggregates, water and some type of additive. As a result of the chemical process, its state changes from a paste (liquid) to a solid material.

  • Density: Between 2200 kg/m³ and 2400 kg/m³

Cellular or lightweight concrete

Concrete Density This type of concrete is intended to be part of thick structures, this means that it is used in the preparation of foundations. It is produced exclusively on the basis of natural raw materials, such as water, sand, cement and air.

  • Density: Between 400 kg/m³ and 1600 kg/m³

Heavy concrete density

It is made with aggregates with a density greater than 3,000 kg/m³ and is designed so that its weight exceeds 2,800 kg/m³. It is used in counterweights for structures, ship shields, radiation shields, or any job where weight is key.

  • Density: can reach up to 4000 kg/m³

shotcrete

It is the concrete that is applied through a process that expels the concrete mix at high speed using a hose and compressed air. This relatively dry concrete solidifies under the effect of the impact. It is frequently used in the construction of bridges, residential buildings, swimming pools, dams, canals and revetments.

  • Density: between 2500 kg/m³ and 2600 kg/m³

centrifuged concrete

It is a type of concrete compacted under the effect of centrifugal force. Due to the circular movement, the manufacture of cylindrical parts such as tubes or piles is facilitated.

  • Density: between 2400 kg/m³ and 2500 kg/m³

Density of vibrated concrete

It is the concrete that is subjected to a vibration procedure in order to eliminate as much air as possible within the mixture to obtain better compaction and homogenize its mass.

  • Density: from 2300 kg/m³ to 2400 kg/m³

Beaten concrete

It is a concrete mix obtained by eliminating air voids, becoming much denser than conventional concrete. This results in better impermeability and greater resistance to external agents, providing a much higher durability.

This compaction process is carried out by means of a rammer which strikes the concrete repeatedly, the number of blows being more important than the intensity of the impact.

  • Density: between 2000 kg/m³ and 2200 kg/m³
